Redslim started 7 years ago as a bunch of data-savvy and tech-savvy people integrating some data. Today, it’s a team of 30 and growing. How was the journey to this point, and how did it look like from a technology and infrastructure point of view?

Starting out, Alberto, Eric, Soren, and I each only had our laptops and we initially rented some storage space on a server rack. We have come a long way in 7 years, being not only one of the first companies to fully adopt the cloud first strategy, but one that continuously research cloud services in attempts to always improve our services.

And what are you planning for next?

Traditional data integration and data warehouse projects are typically designed to respond to questions that we already have answers for. These projects consist of a few data sources, an ETL transformation process where the results are stored in a Data Warehouse with some visualizations on top.

We see now an increase in data volumes, new data sources and types of data to integrate and some of our clients having both on-prem and cloud-born data. As an organization we have adopted a Data Lake approach to make sure that we are able to not only answer questions we already have the answers to but equally important to be able to answer questions we do not yet know.

Servicing big organizations’ data strategies at a time when data availability is exploding means processing huge amounts of information. What is the size of data that Redslim is processing today?! How do you ensure the system won’t collapse?

We process hundreds of datasets daily, and these datasets continue to grow over time. To ensure we have the infrastructure processing capacity to meet clients' SLAs we leverage scalable cloud data storage as well as compute power.

Redslim was born as a ‘’virtual’’ company, what are the elements in the ‘’technology toolkit’’ that cannot be missed to keep it together?

Working remote is part of Redslim's DNA and it relies on self-motivation, the ability to work independently as well as being a team player. From a technology perspective making sure team members have reliable equipment to carry out their tasks efficiently i.e. home office, computer equipment and software are important considerations. Security awareness driven by policies and compliance is an obvious requirement when working remote. In addition, we rely heavily on communication software and protocols for conference calls and sharing information both externally and internally.

What was the most impact of COVID-19 on Redslim’s ways of working from your perspective?

In general, I believe COVID-19 has increased the adoption of digital technologies at both organizational and industry levels and some of these changes will be made permanent even after the crisis.

Given Redslim has always been a company were team members feel comfortable with remote working there has been little impact. Team members' well-being and work effectiveness is always impacted when comes to remote working which means your work-life balance must be prioritized to maintain all your energy levels.
